— FIRST IMPRESSIONS —
APPEARANCE The first thing people tend to notice about Jack is his height--he is incredibly tall, standing a head or more above most men. The second thing they notice is that he doesn't have any skin. Jack is a skeleton--not a scrap of hair or hide on him. He doesn't have eyeballs but somehow can still blink. He also has a tongue. Don't question it.
CLOTHING The good people of Solvunn have made sure Jack is ready for severe weather--perhaps overcompensating a bit for his lack of skin. He wears a brown, fur-collared cloak with a simple, somewhat ill-fitting orange tunic beneath cinched with a thick black belt. His black pants are tucked into sturdy little boots which also have the fur treatment. He wears no gloves and his sleeves hang loose around his wrists.
DEMEANOR Jack swings between two primary dispositions--jolly and inquisitive or stormy and aloof. He can easily become lost in his own thoughts and is victim to strong moods. When he's happy he's on top of the world and when he's sad he might as well have a little rain cloud hovering above him.
AURAL Jack has quite the melodic voice! He speaks from deep in his chest and projects so that his voice might be heard from some distance. He also tends to forget his inside voice when he becomes excited. His laughter is creaky and ominous.
OLFACTORY Crisp dead leaves. Rain in the air. Something almost like cinnamon.
— SKILLS —
CREATIVE Jack is able to formulate complex and abstract ideas. He invents songs, poetry, and stories to entertain himself and others.
SCARY Jack has a commanding presence and has the ability to instill fear into those around him when he so chooses. He's not the Pumpkin King for nothing!
CURIOUS Jack possesses a strong drive to know things which makes him very good at deep research.
— RUMORS —
  • Those who have not met Jack and have only seen him at a distance proclaim that he is a dark omen or perhaps Death himself.
  • That the candy in his pockets never runs out.

IC INFORMATION

Character Name: Jack Skellington
Canon: Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas
Canon Point: right when he gets blown out of the sky in the final act
Age: adult
Background: Wiki

Arrival Scenario: Solvunn

Suitability: I think Jack would be a good fit for a game with factions. He's the unofficial leader of his own homeworld so he's used to dealing with conflicts. Especially when he causes the conflicts. Because you can't just take over another holiday and not expect the US military to get involved.

He's also very curious and I think he would explore and find all the little hooks and crumb trails provided by the game's setting!

Powers:

Scary - Jack has a commanding presence and can warp his body in grotesque ways should the occasion call for it.

Dead - Jack is a dead skeleton. He isn't constrained by the limits of humans, meaning he doesn't have to worry about breathing or eating or anything like that--though he may do ether recreationally. His body can come apart with no problem. He does still feel pain though.

PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them.

Hyper-fixating on Christmas hit Jack like a train. Right when he felt like he was losing touch with everything he stood for, like maybe he didn't even want to be the Pumpkin King any more, he found something new to pour all of his energy into--something alien and mystifying, entirely outside of his comprehension. Imagine the hero of a Lovecraft story except instead of the Color out of Space he discovers candy canes. Driven mad with curiosity and desperation to do something besides Halloween, Jack throws his whole soul into this new Thing.

His spirit is very driven--which is a good and a bad thing. While he helped Halloween roll out year after year and managed to gather an almost accurate second-hand idea of what Christmas was all about through intense investigation and experimentation, he became so obsessed with Christmas that he ignored his own health and relationships. He especially ignored his closest friend, Sally no matter how much she tried to warn him that his Christmas plans were doomed. He just wanted it so bad. The thought of one more Halloween before doing something different made him want to pull his skull into pieces.

Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by?
Jack is very honor-driven. He says his pleases and thankyous. He doesn't take lowly behavior kindly. While he is The Pumpkin King and he has a certain duty to terrify the world of man, he knows there is an art to it. There is stabbing a man in the back and there is frightening him so badly that his hair turns white and then he dies. There just is. And Jack won't stand for a stabbing.

Past the pull-point in his story, Jack discovers that Oogie Boogie has captured and has been torturing two innocent people--one of which is a dear friend of his. He doesn't go in and try to reason with Oogie. When he shows up, Oogie knows what's going to go down. Jack is here to kick his ass and kick it he does! He uses his quick wit to catch a loose string of Oogie's baggy body on an edge and essentially skins him alive. He didn't have to do that. He could have thrown him in a dungeon or had him exiled but instead he spilled his bug guts all over his own torture machine.

What quality or qualities do they admire most?
Jack admires cleverness--the ability to invent and imagine and think one one's feet. In his mind, everyone has a talent like this. When his Christmas plans began he had an entire list of who to seek out and who would be best for what task. His friend Docter Finklestein with his past project, Sally, being a shining example of his abilities, is chosen to create his reindeer--one of the most prominant icons of Christmas. Meanwhile, Sally with her sewing talent is enlisted to create his Sandy Claws suit--it also gives him an excuse to spend a little time with her. He wants to gush about his idea nad he knows his friend will listen. He knows the troublesome trio of Trick-or-Treaters is resourceful enough to kidnap an adult human man so he sends them after Sandy Claws--an incredibly important job that even Jack doesn't do himself.

He knows when someone is more clever than him in a certain area. If someone has a talent in them, Jack will see it and see that they are using it to the fullest. He wants everyone to succeed.

Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?
Past his pull-point, Jack comes to regret ignoring his friends' warnings in favor of his new obsession. His ego, whether he likes to admit it or not, is enormous. He's The Pumpkin King and he's not used to being told "no" and doesn't really know what to do when that happens. He just balks. Obviously it must be some mistake! Of course he's allowed to do whatever-it-is. Why wouldn't he be? And won't it be so brilliant when he does!

He thinks he knows what's best for everyone. If he can't get a resounding yes, he'll re-spin his idea into something closer to what the second party would want. An example of this is when he first shows off his new Christmas obsession to all his friends back home, he is met with dull stares. To remedy this he gives his tale a scary twist to get their approval. What he tells them is not exactly a lie but it also isn't the truth. He knows how they'll interoperate it.

What is their sign, and why?
The Fool

Jack wasn't always a Fool. He is very old and does have some wisdom in him from his hundreds of years of haunting and observing the world of man, but at this point in his story he embodies this arcana to a T. He is bored and restless and craves something, anything that isn't Halloween--which also happens to be the only thing he really knows. When he finds Christmas, Jack throws himself in head over heels and expects everyone else to come along with him. It will be great! Why wouldn't it be? He views everything through a spooky lens and approaches things as though they follow the rules he's used to.

The tale of his obsession almost leads him into a Star sort of personality but his ignorance I think lands him squarely in the realm of The Fool.
